Acquired:
Traded to Seattle from Tampa Bay in return for SS Antonio Perez on Oct. 28, 2002. The deal was contingent on Lou Piniella signing as manager of the Devil Rays.

2003 Highlights:
  • Posted great all-around numbers, batting .295 with 11 HR, 75 RBI, 37 2B, 4 3B and 23 SB
  • Batted .330 after the All-Star Game with nine homeruns and 43 RBI after hitting .268 with 2 HR and 32 RBI in the first half
  • Committed only three errors in the outfield in 157 games
  • Played in all three outfield spots; 139 appearances in left, 20 in center and 4 in right
  • Posted a career-high five-hit game versus Kansas City on May 27
  • Twice had seven-game hit streaks (April 3-10 and (August 3-11)
  • Hit an inside-the-park homerun, the third of his career, on Sept. 22 in Anaheim. He is tied for the most by an active player
