Traded to Seattle from Tampa Bay in return for SS Antonio Perez on Oct. 28, 2002. The deal was contingent on Lou Piniella signing as manager of the Devil Rays.

Batted .330 after the All-Star Game with nine homeruns and 43 RBI after hitting .268 with 2 HR and 32 RBI in the first half
