Acquired by the A's in a trade with the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitchers Mark Redman and Arthur Rhodes in November 2004. Signed through 2007.
2004 Highlights:
* Led all catchers with a .399 on-base percentage, with 86 runs scored and with 183 hits.
* Hit .346 with runners in scoring position.
* Threw out runners at a 32.3% rate.
* Batted .319, mostly from the lead-off position.
Career Highlights:
* Broke the 1400 hit barrier in 2004.
* Has a career batting average of .306 and an on-base percentage of .387.
* Has caught more games then any other catcher in Pittsburgh Pirates history.
* Ranks 16th all-time on the Pirates' career hits list.
