Q&A with Brett Wallace
Give us a scouting report on yourself at the plate and on the field?
I consider myself a power hitter and one that can hit for average. I believe I am an average third baseman.
What are the differences, if any, between using a wood and a metal bat from your experiences?
I actually don't see anything major in terms of a difference between the wood and the metal bat. I do feel more comfortable swinging the wooden bat than the metal back. I find it easier to stay back more with the wood back and let my hands do my work. I just try to stay within myself. With the metal bat you get real aggressive because you know you can pull anything and everything and it will go deep, however that is not the case with the wooden bat.
What is your personal philosophy as a player?
Just to work hard everyday and work on something different to become a better overall player. My goal right now is to win a championship and continue to improve as a better. A key thing for me it to never be satisfied, and to always try and become a better baseball player no matter how good people may say you are.
Have you committed to a college for next fall?
I will be attending Arizona St. University.
What made you decide on ASU?
There are several reasons why I chose ASU. First, I really liked their baseball program, and their coaching staff was great when I talked to them. Another major factor was that a good friend of mine, Jeff Lyman, also committed to ASU, so that basically made the decision to much easier for me.
Talk a little about your expectations for the 2005 Major League Baseball Draft.
Right now the plan is to enter the draft. My goal is to enter professional baseball, and keep working hard on things I need to do to reach that next level.
Do you have a favorite Major League Baseball team and a favorite player?
Yes I do, the Oakland Athletics are my favorite team, and my favorite player is Eric Chavez.
Which pitch, if any, is giving you the biggest problems in terms of hitting it?
The slider from a left hand pitcher.
What have you done to try to improve on that?
Just trying to keep my hands back, and not get fooled on it, and read the seams off the release better.
