Scout.com Player of the Week: Hunter Pence

Hunter Pence caps off a torrid week at the plate by lifting the San Francisco Giants to an improbable series win on the road against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Scout.com Player of the Week really shouldn't be this easy, but the San Francisco Giants' Hunter Pence just had a historically ridiculous seven days.

Pence not only led the charge as the G-men took three of four from the rival Los Angeles Dodgers, going 8-for-17 with seven runs, five homers and 12 RBIs, but he's had arguably the best week of any big leaguer this season.

Pence led all of Major League Baseball in home runs (6), RBIs (19), hits (13), slugging (1.103, with second-place Paul Goldschmidt coming in at .958) and OPS, hitting .448 (13-for-29) with 32 total bases – seven more than the next-most prolific batter (Mike Trumbo, with 25).

Pence didn't just tear the cover off the ball; he also tore some pages out of the San Francisco history book, as well. After tying a career-high six RBIs on a 4-for-5 Tuesday night loss to the Colorado Rockies – the most runs driven in by a Giants player at AT&T since Jose Guillen drove in six on Sept. 19, 2010 – Pence set a new career high with seven runs driven in on Saturday against the Boys in Blue, going 3-for-5 with a grand slam – the fourth of his career.

On Tuesday, Pence also became the first San Francisco player to reach the 20-20 plateau, sending a three-run blast into the seats for his 20th homer of the season.

With a two-homer day on Sunday, Pence has now hit round trippers in fourth straight games, and has driven in at least one run in six straight for the Giants, who have been out of playoff contention for some time now.

Pence has tallied at least one hit in eight of his last 10 games, and reached base safely in nine of his last 10. Six of his past 10 games have seen Pence tally at least two hits.

Pence is now hitting .295 on the year with 25 home runs, 92 RBIs and 86 runs scored.
